Filmish Reviewed by Good Comic Books.

There's been another glowing review of the Filmish series, this time by Joe Innes at Good Comic Books.
"I guess it’s true for every medium, that the best of things are made out of love. Edward Ross is clearly a huge fan of film, his enthusiasm for the subject breaches the paper it’s confined to and made me want to take a class in Film Theory and Criticism. He’s tapped into something incredibly powerful, and harnesses the comics medium to its full potential. Wonderful."

Drop in + Draw: Edinburgh

The Edinburgh League of Comics, founded by myself, Fumio Obata and Tom Hunt, have organised our first ever event.  We're bringing comics drawing happiness to the masses with a Drop in + Draw session.  Hopefully it'll be the first of many...

The Edinburgh League of Comics is pleased to present 'Drop in and Draw', an informal comics drawing event for kids and adults alike!

This free event, held on Saturday 7th of May in celebration of Free Comic Book Day, gives you the opportunity to hang out and draw with amateurs and professionals.  Gain insight from our resident Manga expert Fumio Obata, our webcomic whiz Tom Hunt, or our non-fiction specialist Edward Ross.  Play comics creation games like Panel Scrabble and ComicJam, create your own Comics Remix, or just spend an afternoon drawing whatever you like!

We provide the paper and pens (though bring your own if you want), you provide the inspiration.

The event is being hosted by Newington Library, Edinburgh.  Drop in any time between 1pm and 4.30pm on Saturday 7th May and join the fun!  For more details contact Newington Library on 0131 529 5536 or email the ELC at edinburghleagueofcomics@gmail.com

'Dust' Preview

I've been working well ahead of schedule to produce my submission for the summer special of Paper Science, the comics anthology produced by the fantastic We Are Words + Pictures.  I've tried to create something that breaks as many of my own bad habits as possible, with a focus on visual storytelling, page layout and colouring.  It's been totally great working on something a bit different, and having the space to do so without a deadline looming has been really refreshing.

If you haven't already signed up for a Paper Science subscription, you really should.  Some of the most exciting comics artists in the U.K. are currently creating work for the four issues that are due out this year.  The first of those issues is out soon, with work by the fantastic Luke Pearson, John Allison, Timothy Winchester, Andrew Waugh, Adam Cadwell, Daniel Merlin Goodbrey, Joe List and Dan Berry.

Comics @ Sci-Fi London 30th April - 1st May

I'll be back down in London for the Sci-Fi festival over the May Bank Holiday Weekend, where I'll be participating in a panel discussion about 'Comics and Moving Pictures'. There's a whole weekend of events planned, including a number of panels and discussions, a drop in comics class with Tom Humberstone and WAW+P, film screenings, and comics stalls.

Flyer by Tom Humberstone

The discussion is on Sunday 1st May at 3.30pm at the BFI Southbank.  I'll be chatting with creators Martin Fisher (Battle among the stars), Huw J. Davies (Freeman, Garth) and Roger Mason (2000AD, The Mice).  I'll also be selling comics and hanging around all weekend.

Full details can be found at the London Comics Festival website.
